If- It’s my birthday

Posted on March 30, 2016November 14, 2016 by admin

On my 16th birthday, my cousin Shelly gave me a book of poems. I still have that now well-worn book on my shelf and I still remember the note that she left in it that marked one of her favorite poems.

I’m not sure that I fully appreciated the significance of that poem at the age of 16 but I do today. The words are timeless and I’ve went back to read it often.

IF – by Rudyard Kipling

Random Quote

Don’t do it, Eleanor told the little girl; insist on your cup of stars; once they have trapped you into being like everyone else you will never see your cup of stars again; don’t do it; and the little girl glanced at her, and smiled a little subtle, dimpling, wholly comprehending smile, and shook her head stubbornly at the glass. Brave girl, Eleanor thought; wise, brave girl.
